The Fairbetter Fund is leading an effort to lend a helping hand to farmers in Western North Carolina in the aftermath of hurricane Helene. Due to flooding, many farms have lost most, if not all, of their fencing infrastructure and winter hay supply for their livestock. In the short term, donations made to The Fairbetter Fund will go to helping farmers feed their animals into the spring of 2025. Currently, we have sourced over 3000 large bales from farms in central NC.  We have already coordinated with local NC Ag extension offices that will distribute the hay and other supplies from two designated drop points. Your donations are going directly to paying farmers for their hay and NC based truck drivers who are delivering it to these distribution hubs.

This is just the beginning. Beyond disaster relief, our long-term mission is to strengthen agricultural communities by creating service opportunities that benefit local economies. A portion of all funds raised will be allocated to a disaster relief reserve, ensuring we are ready to respond to future crises. Additionally, we aim to serve those in need while supporting local farm economies by purchasing food from small farms and distributing it to those in need, fostering meaningful connections between people and their local agricultural producers. These service-based opportunities will be carried out in partnership with other community and faith-based organizations seeking to promote resilience, foster generosity, and build stronger relationships between local farms and the communities they serve. Together, we aim to create a sustainable model of support that uplifts both those in need and the agricultural producers who form the backbone of our local economies. By collaborating with like-minded organizations, we can ensure that our efforts are impactful, far-reaching, and rooted in shared values of compassion, stewardship, and community care.
